OUR History paves the way Forward
IIMD was founded on the philosophy that immigrants are best served by immigrants [i.e., those that have the personal experiences needed to provide authentic culturally competent services]. This founding philosophy remains true to this day as IIMD continues to be operated and managed by immigrants.
IIMD has an extensive history of utilizing a multi-cultural service approach, assisting immigrants and refugees from diverse nations, inclusive of its U.S.-born neighbors throughout the City of Detroit and the greater metropolitan area. IIMD envisions a more diverse, equitable, and just society. Such principles are at the heart of IIMD’s mission. In IIMD’s profound commitment to dismantling racism, discrimination, and biases, it strives to promote an inclusive society where marginalized communities have access to the resources needed to thrive.
